Nemesis is a Diabolic. Created to protect a galactic Senator’s daughter, Sidonia. There’s no one Nemesis wouldn’t kill to keep her safe. But when the power-mad Emperor summons Sidonia to the galactic court as a hostage, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia.
She must become her.
Now one of the galaxy’s most dangerous weapons is masquerading in a world of corruption and Nemesis has to hide her true abilities or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns that there is something stronger than her deadly force: the one thing she’s been told she doesn’t have – humanity. And, amidst all the danger, action and intrigue, her humanity might be the only thing that can save her, Sidonia and the entire Empire -GR
I managed to snag the hardback of this book at the library and read it in about three sittings.
I was wary of the hype so kept my expectations low and I’m glad I did because it was such a surprisingly good book. I loved the concept of the Diabolic and how and why they behave the way they do. Nemesis was an awesome character who was strong, clever, complex and fearless and I absolutely loved her.
The whole plot was so interesting as well. I won’t spoil anything but the politics and the cunning in this book are what I enjoyed most. I now desperately want to overthrow the government and it is completely SJ Kincaid’s fault.
One slight negative was I didn’t hugely enjoy Sodonia’s character. I really wanted to like the relationship between her and Nemesis but the fact that Nemesis was manufactured to love Sidonia just made it a bit uncomfortable to me. That may be how S J Kincaid intended, however, and though I didn’t like her, it made for an interesting dynamic.
I am really looking forward to the next books in the series, though I don’t know where they can go from where this book finished. I hope the rest of the books are as good. The next one is scheduled to be released winter of this year.
